Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. -Martin Luther King, Jr. Letter from Birmingham Jail April 16, 1963 |
In 1993, inspired by the many exceptional individuals and organizations serving and protecting Long Island’s diverse communities, Horace and Amy Hagedorn established the Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund at the Long Island Community Foundation. Since its inception, the Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund has provided over $32.5 million to more than 400 organizations on Long Island and nationwide. Approximately 90% of the funds disbursed have gone to support Long Island-based nonprofits throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. When Horace passed away in January 2005, he left additional philanthropic resources to be given away through a newly formed foundation under the leadership of Amy Hagedorn. The Horace Hagedorn Foundation was incorporated in November 2005 as a private family foundation that seeks to support and promote social equity on Long Island. The Foundation is based in Port Washington, New York. |
